Video shows the moment someone breaks in and sets Fort Dodge shop on fire

VIDEO: Two best friends turned co-business owners are in shock after security footage shows someone setting the clothing in their Fort Dodge business on fire early Thursday morning. Dreyzon Phillips runs Fear to Dream, where he designs apparel. Taj Lowrey runs Just for Kicks, where he designs shoes. Together, the two opened a store called FTD in Fort Dodge last October. Video from a security camera shows the moment someone broke the front window of their shop and stepped inside Thursday at 1 a.m. Seconds later, the person can be seen using what appears to be a torch to light the clothing on a few racks on fire. Not even a minute later, the flames can be seen growing and some falling to the ground. "I just saw evil," Phillips said. "I don't know if it's hatred, jealousy, envy, or what."

First responders across Woodbury County learning how to prepare for active shooter emergencies

First responders from across Woodbury County are doing their best to prepare for the worst during three days of “active shooter training.” Woodbury County Emergency Management is hosting the “Active Shooter Incident Management” course, which was created by an organization called C3 Pathways, at the Seaboard Triumph Foods Expo Center. Everyone is put into different sections such as dispatch, tactical, medical, staging and more. All of the personnel that would be on the scene use a laptop computer to virtually respond. Groups have to simulate the entire process, from calls coming into dispatch to hosting a press conference. Several law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers and college security officers from across Woodbury County are participating.

Firefighters called to former apartment building in downtown Sioux City

Sioux City firefighters are looking for the cause of a downtown fire on Wednesday night. Crews were called to the former Argonaut Apartments building at 1103 Nebraska Street around 7:30 p.m. The four story building had been red tagged in March 2023 after owners failed to correct numerous housing deficiencies. “We know there’s no gas or electricity to the fire itself, but there’s still contents inside of it from… obviously, it was an apartment building before that, they didn’t probably remove a lot of stuff,” Sioux City Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Marshal Joe Rodriguez said. “It could be furniture, different tools, you just never know what people are also bringing into these red tagged buildings.” Firefighters told KCAU 9 that on arrival, crews found smoke and a few small fires in the basement of the building. Officials added that they’re still searching to see if anyone was inside.
