‘Baby Box’ to be blessed at Scott Township Fire Station in Evansville, Indiana’s 124th location

There are 229 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the country, and 124 of them are in Indiana. That latest location is at Scott Township and EMS Station 2. That’s at 12845 State Road 57 in Evansville. There will be a blessing on Monday afternoon. Speakers at the event include the Safe Haven Founder and Scott Township Fire Chaplain. Safe Haven boxes are safe places people can surrender a baby. “It’s crucial to have options for mothers in crisis,” said Founder Monica Kelsey. Since 2017, 44 infants have been surrendered in a Baby Box. The National Safe Haven Crisis line has assisted with 150 handoff surrenders. Officials say surrendered babies are adopted by families who have registered as foster to adopt.

Update: 5 men hailed as heroes after rescuing woman, 2-year-old from burning car in Indianapolis

VIDEO: Five Good Samaritans are being hailed as heroes after pulling a toddler to safety from a burning car on Indy’s east side last Friday morning. IMPD said it all happened around 12:30 a.m. when a woman driving eastbound on I-70 ran off the ramp, hit a transformer and slammed into the side of a building near 23rd and Dequincy street. The car burst into flames, with a 2-year-old in the back seat. “We never thought there was a person inside the car or even a baby in the back seat,” said Joel Najera Diaz. But there was. The five men, Diaz, Itamar Cerrato, Jonsin Najera, Jonathan Tinoco and Dany Tinoco were recording the whole time, including the moment when they decided to run toward the burning car and save the toddler. “We didn’t think about a consequence if the car exploded. It was just natural. We saw her and we ran into it and tried to pull her out,” said Najera Diaz.

Tri-Township Fire Department adds new ambulances to service Clark County

VIDEO: The wait time for an ambulance is supposed to be just minutes, certainly not 20 minutes. Last year in Clark County, Indiana, there were 20,000 calls for an ambulance last year. The more calls means longer wait times. The Tri-Township Fire Department in Clark County found they were waiting 15 to 20 minutes for a private ambulance. So, they decided to buy their own ambulances. A fire truck with firefighters on board is most likely going to be the first to show up at an emergency. “First responder calls have become a great big part of what we do,” said Tri-Township Fire and Rescue Chief Amir Mousavi. Chief Mousavi said it makes perfect sense to have a trained paramedic, that is someone capable of providing emergency medical care to critical patients on every fire engine.
