1 boy dead, another injured as SUV strikes them on sidewalk in New Castle County


A 10-year-old boy has died of injuries suffered when he and another boy were hit by a vehicle on Faulkland Road Monday afternoon. New Castle County Police said a 17-year-old male was going westbound in an SUV approaching Centerville Road when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit the two children who were on the sidewalk. The SUV then crashed into a home. Police, paramedics and members of local fire companies responded and treated the three young people. The 10-year-old patient died at Nemours Children's Hospital. The 12-year-old boy was treated at Nemours and released. The 17-year-old driver were treated at Christiana Hospital and released. The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit is investigating the incident.

Obituary: Rodney T. Marvel Jr., state fire protection officer, Georgetown firefighter


Rodney T. Marvel Jr., 55, of Georgetown, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 6, 2024. He was born Oct. 4, 1968, in Milford. Rodney was known for his selfless nature, courageous spirit, being a perfect husband to Kim, and passionate commitment to everything he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community. Rodney's professional career as a master electrician for Sussex County government demonstrated his commitment to excellence and safety. He was currently employed by the State of Delaware at the State Fire Marshal’s Office as a fire protection officer. Rodney was a 37-year life member of Georgetown Fire Company. His career included being chief, deputy fire chief, first assistant chief, second assistant chief, and director on the board, and was currently acting as training officer.
