Baton Rouge fire that displaced 22 residents was intentionally set, officials say


Investigators are searching for answers after a fire that displaced over 20 people at an apartment complex was determined to be intentionally set, according to the St. George Fire Department. The fire happened around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, in the 8300 block of Ned Avenue, which is off Gardere Lane. The call reportedly came in as a shed on fire, but responding crews arrived on scene to find a two-story apartment complex with heavy smoke showing. According to the fire department, firefighters worked to extinguish the structure fire, and they got it under control within 15 minutes, using multiple handlines. All of the residents made it out of the building, and no one was injured, officials confirmed. The Red Cross was called to help the 22 people who were displaced by the fire.

Baton Rouge house fire leaves 2 adults, child displaced


The cause of a house fire overnight in Baton Rouge that left two adults and one child displaced is under investigation. The Baton Rouge Fire Department confirmed the home caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 in the 3800 block of Charles Street near North Acadian Thruway. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found all of the people living in the home outside safe. Crews found a small fire in the attic above the kitchen and were able to put it out before it could spread. The Red Cross was contacted to help the family.

Missing Caddo Parish woman found in marshy area of Red River


The Caddo and Red River parish sheriff’s offices located a missing Keithville woman after forming a combined agency search party, said Sheriff Jay Long. The woman was last seen leaving her residence in Caddo Parish on Monday evening around 5 p.m. Caddo deputies investigating her disappearance obtained information overnight from the manufacturer of the woman’s vehicle indicating her car might be near the Red River Bridge in Coushatta. Red River deputies were dispatched to the area where the vehicle was located unoccupied and unlocked near the boat launch. The Red River Sheriff’s Office organized a multi-agency search of the area, which included assistance from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and Red River Fire Protection District.
