Lexington home catches fire twice on same day, family of 4 displaced

A Lexington home that caught fire Wednesday afternoon went up in flames again that same evening. Firefighters said they were called about the first fire around 2:30 p.m. on Bahama Road off Winchester Road. When crews arrived, they saw the garage completely engulfed in flames. The homeowner and their dog were still inside. Crews said both made it out safely. The home sustained smoke and water damage, and a family of four was displaced. Firefighters believe a lawnmower caused the garage fire. Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters said they were called again to the same home for another fire. Prestonsburg Fire Department names first female fire chief

VIDEO: The Prestonsburg Fire Department has a new chief at the helm, bringing decades of experience to the table and moving forward as the first female chief in the department’s history. Celina Thomas has made a career out of caring for her community, after deciding at a young age that her dream was to be a firefighter. “I knew from the time I was a young girl that this is what I wanted to do. I had a fan on fire in my bedroom and my mom called 911 and the fire department showed up,” said Thomas. “They jumped out of that truck and come running into the house. There was never a question.” In 1991, Thomas joined the Prestonsburg Fire Department as a volunteer and eventually added dispatcher, EMT, and more to her resume. In 2003, she took a full-time firefighter position, quickly working her way up the ranks.
