Over the weekend, one of our nation’s heroes lost everything. On April 28, 80-year-old Tony Smith, a disabled veteran, lost his home after his trailer home caught on fire. Derek McClure, the president of the Hart County Veteran’s Committee, said he heard sirens near his residence by Munfordville Linwood Road. “It destroyed everything he had,” McClure said. “On Sunday, I went to his residence, found him sitting in his front yard on his walker with a friend of his just trying to pick up the pieces of what was left.” After learning that Smith lost his home and necessities in the fire, McClure posted to the Hart County Veteran’s Committee Facebook page, asking the community to help with donations for clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and an affordable place for Smith to live.
