The Smith Mills Fire Department (SMFD) honored those who helped out with a grain bin rescue.
A spokesperson says on Saturday night the firefighters and rescue squad members who responded to the March 20 Highway 268 grain bin rescue were honored by the Smith Mills FD for a successful rescue.
Fire officials say stats show survival rate for grain bin rescues are 49%, and the average rescue time is 3-4 hours. The crew that worked the March 20 incident, not only saved the victim, but the rescue was safely performed in 1 hours and 58 minutes from the time rescue units arrived on scene.
A spokesperson posted, “Great work by everyone that night, including Deaconess EMS, Henderson E911, and the local farmers whom assisted.”
