VIDEO: Terrell Bryant barely survived the car crash that killed his wife in June of last year. He was in a coma for more than a month, with severe burns. He fought to get his life back and this week, 9 months after the crash, he returned home to the Southeast Bullitt Fire House. "It felt good. I was glad to be back," he said, his voice choked with emotion. On Thursday, as we were talking with Lt. Bryant about his homecoming, he made his first fire run: a brush fire taking over dozens and dozens of acres in the area of Crooked Creek Road. Good friend and fire chief Erik Butler tells us the radio traffic — hearing Bryant back in action — never sounded sweeter. "It's great. I mean, I never dreamed he'd be back," Butler said. Thursday's conditions and fire were tough, so command staff checked in on Bryant, but he never came out of the woods. His buddies did not expect him to.
