PHOTOS: A car crash Wednesday afternoon near the corner of Main Street and Morgan Street in Morganfield ended with the former Wathen Drug storefront collapsing.
Morganfield Fire Department Chief Rick Millikan said the crash was the result of a driver having a medical emergency behind the wheel. She was driving down West Main when her car hit another vehicle then smashed through the storefront, Millikan said. The driver had to be extricated from the car and was taken for medical treatment.
The owner of the historic building, Jerry Duncan, had been remodeling with the goal of making it a meeting hall. Duncan, a barber, was cutting a customer's hair in a shop nearby when the collapse happened. He ran out and left his customer sitting in the chair. "I was the first one in there," Duncan said. "There was dust everywhere."
