Late Tuesday morning, fire officials responded to a fire in Smiths Grove that destroyed a home and much of what was inside.
The Smiths Grove Fire Department was called to the scene of a fire on Smiths Grove Oakland Road at around 10:30 a.m.
Smiths Grove Fire Chief Kenneth Priddy said the home was fully involved when he arrived. Gott and Richardsville Volunteer Fire Departments responded as well.
The initial report stated a mattress had caught fire, but officials have not confirmed the cause of the fire.
A neighbor, who declined an on camera interview, said he went inside to try to help one of the residents put the fire out, but it was too late.
Officials had the fire out and were clearing the scene in just over an hour.
The homeowner declined to speak on camera but said she couldn’t believe everything she owned was gone, just like that.
