VIDEO: An apartment building collapsed Friday following an early morning fire.
For Building Owner and Resident Anthony Shepherd, the morning started like any other until he received a phone call.
“I was at work and they call, one of the tenants called and told me that the building was on fire,” he said. Hearing the property he owned and lived in was devastating for Shepherd, but he felt even worse for his neighbors.
“My concern is these people that have two or three kids that lived here, that you know if I can get them taken care,” he said.
The fire happened off of KY-699 near Owens Branch Road in the Slemp community Friday morning. Firefighters from the Cornettsville Volunteer and Viper Fire Departments responded after receiving the call around 7:30 Friday morning.
Flames and heavy smoke were visible when firefighters arrived.
