Two prescribed fires planned near Idaho City
According to a recent news release, Boise National Forest fire managers expect to conduct two prescribed fires in Idaho City's vicinity from April 30 through May 2. Specific dates will depend on weather and vegetation and are subject to change. These prescribed fires are part of the Forest Service's Wildfire Crisis Strategy to reduce the risk of future catastrophic wildfires to nearby communities and natural resources. Mores South, 173 acres: The first burn will be four miles east of Idaho City along Forest Road 327 (Rabbit Creek Road) and will last one to two days of burning with five to seven days of post-fire monitoring. The burn will impact potential smoke in Idaho City, Highway 21 and the Granite Creek Recreation Site.

Idaho BLM issues summer fire prevention order
Idahoans are spending more time exploring public lands as temperatures begin to warm, with officials saying to recreate with fire safety in mind. The Bureau of Land Management’s Idaho office issued its annual fire prevention order Thursday, banning certain activities on BLM land into the fall. Starting May 10, people cannot use fireworks, exploding targets, steel ammunition, among other restrictions. Shooting at steel targets or burning explosive materials are also prohibited. If you do plan to target shoot on BLM land over the summer, officials recommend bringing a shovel and at least five gallons of water to snuff out any unintended fires. Anyone found violating the order could be on the hook for fire suppression and rehabilitation costs, along with other fines.
