A southeast Iowa fire department now has a shiny new fire truck to battle blazes all around town.
A new $394,000 pumper truck was delivered to Centerville Fire Rescue on Monday.
Within 30 minutes of its arrive, the department said the truck was dispatched to assist on a medical call.
Centerville Fire Chief Vern Milburn told KTVO the new top-mount pumper has a 1,250 gallon tank, 250 gallons bigger than the truck it replaces.
It also comes with a 20-gallon foam cell, which can blast with high or low pressure. The foam cell is a feature the previous truck didn't have.
The vehicle was built by South Dakota-based Rosenbauer Group. The apparatus was about a year in the making.
The old truck has been running fire calls in Centerville for almost 25 years, but it's not headed into retirement.
