A Charles City tire and automotive repair shop was heavily damaged by fire Monday evening. The Charles City Fire Department was called to Nelson Tire and Auto on Gilbert Street shortly after 6 p.m. to find flames and smoke coming from the establishment. Firefighting efforts included cutting a hole through one of the bay doors to the garage and pumping water from the nearby Cedar River. The fire was extinguished at around 7:30 p.m. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no cause or damage estimates have yet been released. Firefighters from Floyd, Colwell, Marble Rock, Nashua, and Rockford fire departments assisted in battling the blaze. The business had also suffered a previous fire in March of 2018.
