The city of Anamosa and first responders across Iowa are still in shock from last Tuesday's deadly attack at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. "In my lifetime, I've never seen anything this close to home," Jared Parker said, a firefighter for the town of Martelle in Jones County. The community has responded in a big way to honor nurse Lorena Schulte and corrections officer Robert McFarland; there was a statewide funeral procession from McFarland on Saturday. On Tuesday, one week after the attack, first responders gathered at the Anamosa High School track for an honor run. "Robert McFarland and Lorena Schulte are heroes," Ron Slagle said, a Marion Police officer who organized the run. Corrections officers ran the Department of Corrections and U.S. flags from the prison to the track, where about 100 people ran a ceremonial mile.
