A Storm Lake man was arrested after starting a fire Monday.
The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 401 West 4th Street in Storm Lake for a report of a small fire outside of an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers found the fire to be extinguished by a witness. The fire was determined to have caused $1,000 in damage to a nearby garage at 504 Ontario Street.
Witnesses told police that the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Eddie Benjamin, had started the fire and fled the area prior to officers arrival, making statements that he had planned to start other fires.
Officers conducted a search and located Benjamin in the 300 block of West Lakeshore Drive, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Benjamin was taken to the Buena Vista County Jail and booked on charges of arson 2nd degree, and reckless use of fire.
