On July 13, at 6:20 a.m. the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a residential fire reported at 1810 Sherwood Drive in Marshalltown after a nearby neighbor reported it. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story single-family residence with fire showing from the windows of the second floor. Occupants were encouraged to get out through a sliding door and onto a flat roof next to the bedroom. Fire crews set up ladders to assist the occupants to the ground. Crews brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. The two homeowners and their dog sustained no injuries. The fire originated in a lighting fixture on the exterior front side of the house and extended up and into the second floor bedroom. The cause of the fire was a failure of the lighting fixture’s wiring and was unintentional.
