Man arrested after authorities say he set fires near Waterloo trail

A man is facing several charges after he allegedly set a few small fires near a Waterloo recreational trail. On Wednesday morning just after midnight, officers and firefighters were dispatched to the 11th Street Bridge. When crews arrived, they found John Charles Baker Jr., 56, near three small fires along the trail. Baker admitted to lighting the fires. Baker was taken into custody at Black Hawk County Jail. He has been charged with third-degree arson, possessing drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. His bond is set at $2,600.
