Two churches were set on fire within 24 hours in Clark County.
The latest, reported early Thursday morning, caused heavy water damage at the Liberty Bible Church of the Nazarene at 12404 NE Salmon Creek Ave.
Crews called to the fire at about 3 a.m. discovered that something had been thrown through a window of the church nursery. Sprinklers put out the flames, said Senior Pastor Larry Rounsley.
"Really, our concern is that everyone is ok and we are grateful for that," he said. "We would pray for the person that is so troubled to do these types of things. As a church, we have great people who will respond, move forward, so we can get back to caring for the community that we are here for."
The sanctuary was not damaged, he said.
Sky 8 also captured an image in the back of the church. Someone left a message in what appeared to be shaving cream, or chalk. It's hard to make out what the message says.
"We can't be distracted. We are here. We are here to care for people. And that’s what we are about. And that’s what we are going to do. It’s a setback and we’ll deal with it. And move on," Rounsley said.
