Firefighters worked through the early morning hours Wednesday to put out a three-alarm fire at a Hazel Dell church.
No one was hurt in the fire at First Congregational United Church of Christ, fire officials said.
Crews were called out 3 a.m. on reports of a fire outside the church. Clark County Fire spokesperson Dave Schmitke said the flames quickly spread up the west side of the building, prompting them to bump it to a three-alarm fire.
"It's designed to be like Noah's Ark, so you have a big roof structure," said Schmitke. "We got in there, and we were worried it was gonna come down on top of us." The church recently spent nearly a million dollars in renovations on the building. Schmitke said the flames made it inside the building, however they are still trying to determine the extent of the damage.
