Spokane County firefighters got a very generous donation Monday from two young girls.
Fire officials said the two elementary age girls raised $387 for firefighters with a lemonade stand in Colbert.
One of the girls went to the department’s District Office in Chattaroy after school and presented the money to Spokane County Fire District 4.
"It was just so sad when I heard three firefighters died and I thought, 'Hey, how about I give the money I earned from my lemonade stand to the firefighters?'" said Ruby Schneider who helped raise the money.
Spokane County Fire Public Information Officer Megan Hill said they will donate the money to the Volunteer Association of Firefighters. It is a local group that will use the money to help put-on community-based events.
"This has happened before and with a lemonade stand, you have to sell a lot of lemonade to make that much money so we're pretty impressed with them," said Hill.
Schneider said if the fire season gets bad again you can expect to see her out on those streets again selling lemonade to help raise money for firefighters once again.
