A Spokane firefighter is pioneering a ground breaking alert system to help children with autism and other disorders. The Isaac Alert system will let firefighters know when they are heading to a call whether there's a child with autism and behaviors to watch for. The Isaac Foundation, a local organization that works with the autism community, and Spokane Fire Lieutenant John Goodman, saw a growing need for an alert system like this one, and first responders want to make sure every child they help feels safe. As a mom surrounded by all boys Autumn Bogart is familiar with chaos. She celebrates being a mom to Karson and Zander and has learned to adapt with their struggles. “We knew something was wrong, we just didn't know what,” she said. About a year and a half ago her oldest son Karson was diagnosed with autism. He struggles with communication and, like many children with autism, he loves to run, which can be dangerous. “He has no sense of danger so he'll run. This is a problem going out in public but he'll run out in the road, he'll run away from us, he's not afraid of anything,” Autumn said. That's where the Isaac Alert comes into play.
