The Richland Fire Department teamed up with Jefferson Elementary School as reading mentors for kids. Every Tuesday afternoon different firefighters will practice reading skills with students for about 20 minutes. "It was an excellent experience for both of us," said firefighter Phebe Johanson. "The students felt comfortable reading and excited to show us what they could do. For us it's a great way to help out, give back, and also be part of the community." The reading sessions will continue throughout the school year.
