Firefighters from several agencies are now mopping up in the aftermath of a two-alarm structure fire this morning at the Tree Top fruit processing cooperative in Selah.
Sharon Miracle, Tree Top communications director, said the fire was reported at 9:23 a.m. in one of the dryers used to dehydrate apples for use as ingredients in other products. Firefighters arrived around two minutes later, she said.
There were approximately 100 employees in the building, which was immediately evacuated, Miracle said.
No injuries were reported.
Tree Top employees closed vents on the rooftops of other buildings to prevent smoke from affecting fruit processing lines.
The first firefighters on the scene reported seeing flames through the roof of a building at 101 S. Railroad Ave called the Ross Plant.
