The Spokane Fire Department is investigating an apartment fire that happened near Maple Street and Maxwell Avenue Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Maple Street and Maxwell are blocked off and officials said it may be that way for a while. Officials said a preliminary investigation showed the fire began in an apartment where no one was home. Smoke damaged the second and third floors resulting in no one being able to stay in the apartments for the night, crews said. The Red Cross is on the way to help those displaced. There was no word on any injuries.
