Clarkston city leaders now have a better understanding of what it’s like to be a firefighter.
They spent a day in their shoes, or should I say boots, and here’s why. Exhaustion, after putting on all the gear, and learning safety protocol.
“It’s really heavy,” said Belinda Campbell. “I don’t know how these guys do this.”
This is part of the department’s new program, “Fire Ops 101,” teaching city leaders about what it takes to be a firefighter.
The purpose, to help elected officials understand the fire department’s equipment, and what it needs to protect your life and property.
On this day, Clarkston officials took part in a safety discussion, sized and put on turnouts, watched a fire demonstration at Clearwater Paper, and learned CPR and basic first aid.
This is something the firefighters said they’d like to do again in 2016.
