PHOTO - A mobile home on Lake Aldwell Road west of Port Angeles caught fire while the occupant was cooking and was completely destroyed late Thursday night. The occupant, Charles Powers, escaped safely but lost everything in the fire at 64 Lake Aldwell Road, which was reported at 10:22 p.m., said Chief Sam Phillips of Clallam County Fire District 2. Powers obtained housing through Serenity House overnight, Phillips said. Firefighters found the home in flames when they arrived with three engine, two water tenders and two command vehicles. A nearby power line and trees were beginning to ignite from the radiant heat. Clallam County Public Utility District crews disconnected electrical power so that firefighters could work safely, Phillips said. Power told firefighters that he had been cooking bacon and had stepped away from the stove for awhile. When he returned the kitchen was burning. Power left the house and reported the fire to his landlord, Susie Gustafson, who reported the fire to emergency dispatchers.
