Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a series of arsons in West Seattle. Officers arrested the man late Thursday night at a bar near SW Oregon Street and California Avenue SW after serving a search warrant at his home and finding evidence linking him to several recent fires in West Seattle. Detectives interviewed the suspect and booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of arson. His name was not immediately released. So far, detectives have linked the man to four fires in the West Seattle area, including incidents captured on surveillance video on Oct. 12 and on Halloween. Police believe the man may be connected to a number of other fires in West Seattle as well, but are still investigating and working with prosecutors to bring charges. Investigators did not immediately explain how they tracked down the suspect, but police earlier released surveillance footage of a man believed to be the arsonist and announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. West Seattle was hit by a series of eight arsons between Oct. 12 and 31, all clustered within a one-mile radius. The fires share some common traits besides their proximity to one another - all were set in the early morning hours between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. and all were set outside. The first two, on Oct. 12, were in the 3500 block of SW Morgan Street. The second two, on Oct. 18, damaged two cars in the Sylvan Ridge development early Sunday morning. The owner of one car found a burning box beneath his vehicle. The fifth arson, on Oct. 19, damaged a building with Seattle Housing Authority offices on the first floor and an East African Community Center located on the second floor. The community center serves a local Muslim community and has a religious school connected with it.
