At 10:27 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, the Marysville Fire District was dispatched to a residential fire in the 6800 block of 69th Place NE. Firefighters arrived at 10:33 a.m. and located a fire in a single story residential building. Original reports stated that there was "Christmas tree on fire." The first arriving officer reported a single-story structure with flames and smoke visible from the front of the structure. Firefighters fought the fire offensively and the fire was under control within 5 minutes, confined to the living room. The structure was occupied at the time of the fire. All of the residents self evacuated. Two pets were treated at the scene for smoke exposure. Firefighters used special pet oxygen masks to provide oxygen and the cats responded well to the treatment. They were transported to a local veterinary hospital for more treatment. The fire loss has been estimated at $193,000. The Red Cross is assisting the family. At the height of the incident more than 22 firefighters battled the blaze, with mutual aid provided by Getchell (Snohomish County Fire District 22).
