Two Grant County fire districts were awarded a grant to help replace wildfire protection equipment. Grant County Fire District 13 in Ephrata and Grant County Fire District 8 in Mattawa both received a $1,000 grant from the Medic One Foundation, a Seattle-based non-profit organization, and The Physio Foundation based in Redmond. “Helping these communities equip and support their local firefighters is essential to helping them be ready for the next fires they may encounter,” Physio Foundation Director Renee Hartnett stated. The grants are awards for fire departments and districts to replace damaged wildland protective gear for firefighters as well as to purchase tools and equipment damaged during this year’s wildfire season. “Many of the fire departments that respond to these major complex fires are predominantly volunteer staffed and have very limited resources,” Medic One Foundation Executive Director Jan Sprake stated. “Our grants will help prepare them for the next fire season.” More than 40 fire departments applied for grants through the Medic One Foundation. People can make a donation to the foundation to help award grants on their website.
