Two people managed to escape a mudslide that severely damaged their Burien home Tuesday night. A second nearby home was also damaged and an evacuation order for nearby residents is still in effect. The slide happened sometime before 10 p.m. on Standring Lane in the north part of town, just southwest of the Salmon Creek Ravine. The slide wiped out the underside of one home, spreading debris along the beach. "My uncle was in the very bottom of the corner of the front side of the house when it initially came," Tyler Fold told ABC News, pointing toward what's left of the home. "He heard the crack and saw debris coming down the hill. My grandmother was in the top room and they were able to get her out on the deck and evacuate her through a ladder off the deck." Ford's uncle, who didn't want to give his name, said it "sounded like a freight train coming through." "It pushed my truck right through the house and my other car into the water," he said. "I heard it and ran to grab my mother. We were lucky to be in the other end of the house." Part of the home's damage came from their large pickup truck that was slammed through the bottom of the house. "(Their) truck was all the way up on the other side of the house," Ford said. "That big F350 truck, (it) weighs about 8,000 pounds. That truck went through the house." The car remains in the water and is not an environmental hazard according to city staffers. The car can’t be removed until landslide debris is removed.
