Grant County Fire District 3 in Quincy was recently awarded about $316,000 in FEMA SAFER grants. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities.
Grant County Fire District 3 Firefighter and Recruitment and Retention Specialist Michele Mazzola says the money will be spent on a new outdoor reader board which will display educational material and recruitment info, tuition assistance for college bound or trade school bound firefighters, state-of-the-art protective gear and recruit marketing campaigns.
