Several fire crews battled a 2-alarm commercial fire at a strip mall in Kirkland early Wednesday morning. After 3 a.m., firefighters received calls from people reporting flames at the Rose Hill Village on the intersection of NE 85th St. and 128th Ave. NE. Firefighters said the fire appears to have started near Yuppie Pawn Shop and a dry cleaner, two of 12 total businesses in the mall. A woman sleeping nearby says she couldn't believe what she saw. "I could see the pockets of fire coming up," she said. "At least four-to-five pockets shooting straight up -- I'd say 8-feet in the air." Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The fire was considered out at 7 a.m. but crews remain on the scene to mop up any hot spots.
