A pair of new wildfires, collectively dubbed as the Iron East Fire, in the Blewett Pass vicinity have burned approximately 125 acres combined and put several homes on Level 2 evacuation notices. Both fires were sparked last Friday at around 10:00 p.m. by lighting strikes. One is torching timber to the east of Forest Road 9714 and the other is blackening the landscape to the west of Forest Road 9714. Residents within a half-mile of the blaze to the north of the fire are under the Level 2 notifications, where three engines are positioned to protect houses and other structures. The wildfire is burning on steep and heavily forested terrain. Crews have been busy clearing overgrowth from Forest Road 9714 in order to access potential points of containment and direct attack.
