Two waterfront homes were destroyed by fire Tuesday morning on the west side of Vashon Island, but crews prevented the flames from spreading through the surrounding forest.
Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 19000 block of Sunset Road SW, at around 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a large house fire. The Seattle and Tacoma fire departments also launched fireboats to help extinguish the blaze.
One home was fully ablaze when crews arrived, and flames were spreading to a second home and into the surrounding trees and brush. Only one resident was at home at the time of the fire, and he was able to escape without injury.
