A fire struck the Berg Rose Apartments in Leavenworth on Thursday morning, forcing evacuations.
The alarm was sounded about 9:25 a.m., but firefighters with Chelan County Fire District 3 managed to suppress the flames within 20 minutes. Initial reports said one person was injured, and other residents were able to leave their units unharmed. The 30-unit complex on Mine Street, built in 1983, is largely senior-designated low-income housing. The fire was confined to a single apartment, but crews said smoke damaged the interior throughout the building.
About 50 firefighters from Leavenworth's District 3, as well as Fire Districts 1 and 6 and Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue, responded to the emergency.
