A toddler who went missing from his home Tuesday is now being treated in a Seattle hospital after a desperate search found him unconscious in a muddy Yakima County canal. The incident unfolded around noon when emergency responders received a 911 call from a distraught family who said their 2-year-old boy had disappeared from their home on McDonald Road in Toppenish. Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Swallow says deputies, troopers, firefighters and more responded, searching the area and a nearby canal for the boy. “We knew there was a dam, a diversion dam around the corner with a little bit of debris flowing around there, and one of the troopers just happened to spot the toddler's hand sticking out of the debris pile,” Swallow said.
