A Tacoma apartment building under construction sustained significant damage in a Tuesday morning fire.
Crews responded to the scene, at South J Street and South 7th Street, at about 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames.
The blaze was spreading through the building when firefighters arrived, sending up a dense plume of smoke.
Crews were able to douse the flames, but not before they caused significant damage - especially to the building's upper floors, said Joe Meineke of the Tacoma Fire Department.
No one was believed to be inside the structure at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
