A Spokane woman was arrested for arson Monday after police and firefighters responded to a call of a fire at an apartment at Bernard and Sprague in downtown Spokane. Witnesses say she was seen in her room sitting next to a burning pile of clothes and doing nothing to put the flames out. She told one witness she was going to “burn this whole place down,” according to court documents.
The documents say the woman, 58-year-old Cynthia Marlin, complained to management for several days before the fire was set, accusing the apartment manager of stealing money and mail from her. According to the documents Marlin told the apartment manager, “I’m going to gut you and I’m going to set this place on fire.”
On Monday, two neighbors reported smelling and seeing smoke coming from Marlin’s room.
