A 91-year-old woman was able to escape a spreading fire that destroyed one home and two neighboring structures in Vancouver just before 6 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 3100 block of Z Street, at about 6 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames in the area.
"This outbuilding and the one that’s actually on the ground right now were fully engulfed in flames. A lot of the vegetation surrounding were also engulfed in flames," said Darrin Deming of Vancouver Fire.
The home's occupant is a 91-year-old woman whose great-grandson, Caleb Griffin, lives right down the street.
"The whole tree was literally on fire behind her house, and their whole house looked like it was on fire.
