A wind-fueled grass fire which broke out Wednesday evening south of Prosser has grown to burn an estimated 2,500 acres so far. State fire resources are being requested to help battle what's been dubbed the Montecito Fire. State incident commanders are considering the fire at zero percent containment until their crews can check the fire and verify local officials’ report of 80 percent containment, said incident management team spokesman Ben Shearer. About 50 homes were threatened by the fire, and Shearer said the plans are to drop the evacuation order from level 2 to level 1, which requires people to be aware that they may need to leave. About 100 firefighters from the state team are expected to be at the fire by noon, Shearer said.
