Gina Batali was unanimously appointed to the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department at the board’s meeting last week. Batali will serve in the Position 3 seat left vacant by the resignation last week of Bruce Alward. She is a north Bainbridge resident and the former owner of Salumi Artisan Cured Meats in Pioneer Square. It was a 4-0 decision; Alward officially resigned before the vote. “Ms. Batali was known to a number of the commissioners and staff from her activism associated with the decision to fully open Station 23 on Phelps Road,” said BIFD Fire Commissioner Scott Isenman. “She also participated in our recent community input group in preparation for our strategic plan update.”
