Spokane Valley firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 10500 block of E. 14th Ave. shortly before 3:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The first responding crew on scene found the structure well involved with the fire extending to the surrounding yard. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in the yard to protect neighboring homes and made an attack to extinguish the fire inside the home, which had also extended into the attic. The fire was reported by a next door neighbor who awoke to the strong smell of smoke and an orange glow outside his bedroom window. The neighbor reported that the burned home had been vacant for an extended period of time.
