The abandoned house in the 700 block of North Sixth Avenue was becoming familiar to Yakima firefighters. In six months, firefighters were there four times putting out fires until the home eventually was demolished. It was one of 30 buildings listed by the city as abandoned and dangerous where firefighters responded to calls, sometimes more than once. The fires, which can sometimes frustrate firefighters who have to go back to a place more than once, also can tax the department’s resources to the point where additional firefighters have to be called in to cover other calls in the city, fire officials said.
