Nisqually John Fire burning at least 40 acres along Snake River in Whitman Co.

Crews responded to a wildfire along the Snake River Wednesday. The Nisqually John Fire has burned at least 40 acres of mostly rural land and has continued to grow at a rapid pace, according to the Colton Fire Department. On Thursday morning, crew from Spokane Fire District eight, nine and 10 were sent to the fire. According to officials, they are facing steep terrain and high temperatures on Thursday. Officials from the Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management team said the fire grew overnight and SE WA IMT Team one will be assisting at the scene. Colton Fire officials estimated the fire, which is affecting the area close to the Nisqually John Landing about 25 miles south of Pullman, could be affecting as much as 60 acres as of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, but that number was not confirmed.
