Local firefighters responded to the Liberty Lake Regional Park on Saturday after a mountain biker reported he was lost somewhere in the park and injured. The mountain biker, a developmentally delayed teenager, called 911 just before 5: 30 p.m. on Saturday. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office launched the Air 2 helicopter and was able to locate the teen from above based on a GPS ping from his phone, about five miles into the trail system. Through a combination of UTVs from the Spokane Valley Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office ATVs, emergency crews were able to get most of the way to the mountain biker before hiking the rest of the way in. The biker was stable, with minor injuries, but was unable to walk.
