A string of suspicious fires in Kitsap County has investigators asking for the public's help.
Seven fires have burned brush in and near the Illahee Preserve since August 17, the Kitsap County Fire Marshal reported.
All of the fires have been fairly small in size.
"It’s dry. It’s still warm out. And it wouldn’t take the conditions to vary very much to have these take off. And the Illahee Preserve is really a jewel for the county," said Fire Marshal David Lynam.
Maggie Stevens and her friend visit the Illahee Preserve several times per week.
"To me – it’s solitude. It’s so nice to be in the woods and hear the birds and see the squirrels," Stevens told KOMO News on Monday night.
Stevens and her friend are upset after hearing about the recent fires. Four of them happened on Friday, Lynam said.
