Residents of Skagit Valley Mobile Manor received free smoke alarms Saturday as part of the American Red Cross campaign Sound the Alarm.
The nationwide campaign, which kicked off Saturday, has a goal of installing 100,000 alarms in communities at high risk of fires in 16 days.
“Smoke alarms save lives,” Red Cross Northwest Region CEO Alex Dieffenback said in a news release. “Three out of every five home fire deaths in this country happen in homes that don’t have working smoke alarms.”
Seven people in the U.S. die every day in home fires, with children and the elderly being the primary victims, according to the Red Cross.
Red Cross Northwest partnered with regional fire departments to provide alarms and education to at-risk communities in and around Skagit County.
