East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews were able to quickly extinguish a fire Monday morning that likely had been “burning for some time” in a construction office located in Bonney Lake’s Tehaleh planned residential community. Someone called 911 just before 5 a.m. to report the fire. Fire crews arrived 10 minutes later and forced their way into the building located at 153 Street East and 189th Avenue East. Once inside, they found a fire in a “smoldering state,” East Pierce Fire and Rescue Chief Bud Backer said. The building was roughly 30 by 30 feet and served as an office for a construction company building homes in the east Pierce County development. No one was at the office at the time of the fire, Backer said. “Nothing appeared to be suspicious,” he said. “There wasn’t any apparent vandalism.” A picture posted to Twitter showed the square building with smoke rising from its roof. Because of the building’s size there was heat damage throughout the office. The Pierce County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, Backer said.
