A house on Lake Tapps’ Snag Island is a total loss after an early Sunday fire, according to East Pierce Fire and Rescue.
Dispatchers received calls about a fire at the home on the 21000 block of Snag Island Drive East about 11:30 a.m. Nobody was injured in the blaze.
There are no fire hydrants on Snag Island, so firefighters had to bring water tenders to the island. Water was drafted from the lake, which is a slow process.
East Pierce Fire Chief Bud Backer said in a news release that the water supply was inadequate to fight the house fire even an hour after arriving.
Firefighters from King County Fire District and Orting Valley Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
The homeowner was charging batteries in the basement, which may have started the fire, the release said.
